This accessibility statement applies to content hosted on the clentparishcouncil.gov.uk domain.

This website is run by Clent Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Some previous text content is not written in plain English. When we publish new content, we’ll make sure it meets the accessibility standards.

We plan to address these problems before or by 1st May 2021. When we publish new content, we’ll make sure our use of images and text meet accessibility standards.

PDFs and other documents

Some of our current PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services. By 1st May 2021, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to any live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 31st March 2021. It was last reviewed on 14th April 2021.

This website was last tested on 15th – 28th March 2021. The tests were done by Candoo Web Design and Hosting.

We used this approach to decide on a sample of pages to test:

  • All content pages are built on templates
  • We checked all live content pages and created a list of common templates
  • We chose an example for each template which used the most template functionality.

PDF Documents Guidance

Unless authored with accessibility in mind, PDF documents often have accessibility issues. Additionally, PDF documents are typically viewed using a separate application or plug-in, and can thus cause confusion and navigation difficulties.

The best approach is to ensure the PDF document is natively accessible. Additionally, inform the user that the link will open a PDF document. Because PDF documents may have limitations in accessibility (particularly for complex content) and require a separate program, HTML content should often be used in place of or in addition to the PDF document.

One common problem is that figures and images in PDF documents should have non-blank ALT text, describing the image, except for decorative images which should be marked as artifacts.
Another is a lack of organisation and hierarchical headings in the document layout.
GOV.UK has replaced almost all of its own PDFs with text and images (HTML) versions of the documents.

PDFs must be tagged to be accessible by screen readers.
This can be addressed when creating a PDF or exporting a Word document as a PDF.
You can:
Enable the ‘Document structure tags’ option in Word,
or the ‘Tagged PDF’ option in OpenOffice when exporting,
or use the ‘Make Accessible’ plug-in for Adobe Acrobat.
